When you arrive at finding the type of career you would like to work in, then it's time to think about salaries. Aspects like money, benefits, stability, and location all play an important part of the decision-making process. Some careers can pay well but offer little job stability and for people with a family this may be too risky. Some careers require a large amount of travel and if you are not interested in this then you have to make sure you inform your employer about your needs and wants.
